Remember when you tried to suspend me twi~ oh just the once I suppose. Anyway, I’m here because like many other people who have joined DreamWidth in the last month, I’m here because Google+ doesn’t like the name I want use online and despite giving them time to fix it or at least say they were going to fix it, they have done neither.

But Nido! You already have a LiveJournal! Why not post there instead?– Outspoken from Tunbridge Wells

Good question, really I don’t know. I mean, I still read my friends page daily on LJ, even though over the years the number of people whose names look like this on my profile page has increased and many have ceased posting except for comments on other people’s journal entries. It might be just me but I always felt there there was an expectation that LJ is somewhere to post long form text entries. After all, we all have Twitter now if we want to post something small and fleeting. Its with this stigma in mind I think that many didn’t want to post to LJ any more. Also the adverts if you’re an unpaid account don’t help I suppose.

So I will hear by state that entries on my DreamWidth will not be constrained by this! They will be larger than a tweet but beyond that, I might post anything. A video I liked, a picture, some screenshots, art I’ve bought (or gasp, drawn), open questions, and of course some medium sized writing. If anything gets big I might even cross post it back to LiveJournal! Sounds good.

I do rather like this song, plus I linked to this guy on Google+ and now you can’t see that any more so here he is again!

My sense about Dreamwidth is that the key difference is the people running it and the "subscription + user metered invite" paradigm that LJ abandoned. Which in the opinion of many caused LJ to start down the long road to hell.
